Like many people, I’ve increasingly integrated ChatGPT into my daily workflow.
What started as occasional conversations evolved into dozens of projects and eventually hundreds of individual chats covering everything from aerospace engineering and business strategy to product development, investor outreach, writing, and research.
Over time, I ran into a simple problem.
Finding information became difficult.
Even with ChatGPT’s project structure, I found myself scrolling through long lists of conversations trying to remember where a particular discussion, analysis, or decision had been captured. Valuable information was there, but it wasn’t always easy to locate.
I wanted a simple way to see the structure of my ChatGPT workspace at a glance.
So I built one.
Today, I’m pleased to share ChatGPT TOC Generator, a free Chrome extension that creates a table of contents for your ChatGPT projects and conversations.
What It Does
The extension scans your ChatGPT workspace and generates an organized summary showing:
- Projects
- Conversations within each project
- Conversation counts
- Activity information
- Exportable results
The output can be copied or exported for use in documentation, knowledge management systems, research archives, or project tracking.
My original goal was simple: create a quick way to understand what was in my ChatGPT workspace without manually opening project after project.

Privacy First
One design requirement was that the extension should operate locally within the browser.
ChatGPT TOC Generator processes information directly in your browser and does not transmit your conversation content to external servers.
The extension is intended as a lightweight utility rather than a cloud service.
Why I Built It
AeroSigma Labs exists as a place to explore ideas, technologies, and practical solutions to real-world problems.
Sometimes those efforts involve aerospace concepts.
Sometimes they involve artificial intelligence.
Sometimes they involve small tools that make everyday work a little easier.
ChatGPT TOC Generator falls into that last category.
It started as a tool I wanted for myself. After using it, I thought others working extensively with ChatGPT might find it useful as well.
Looking Ahead
This is the first public release, and I expect the extension will continue to evolve based on user feedback and changing ChatGPT capabilities.
If you try it, I’d welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
Compatibility
ChatGPT TOC Generator is currently designed for the ChatGPT web interface when accessed through Google Chrome on Windows.
Because the extension interacts with the ChatGPT user interface, future updates to ChatGPT may occasionally affect functionality. When this occurs, updates will be released as practical to maintain compatibility.
As with all browser extensions that depend on third-party websites, compatibility with future ChatGPT releases cannot be guaranteed.
Availability
ChatGPT TOC Generator is currently tested on Google Chrome for Windows and available free through the Chrome Web Store:
